Spiritu di Cabrito 20241105 0008

This is a relatively easy hike in the eastern part of the island. The Sero Alejandro is located behind Savaneta. At the top there is a large water tank. You can park your car there.

Then you first have to go back down a little bit and at the first opportunity turn left onto the sandy path. After a while you pass the sign that makes it clear that you are entering the Arikok National Park. In addition to the rules that apply there, it also states that you must have a valid entrance ticket to the national park. That is the reason why I always buy an annual pass at the beginning of my vacation in Aruba. Almost all walks end in or pass through the national park, so the annual pass quickly pays for itself.

Directly after the forementioned sign there is another one on the right hand side indicating that you are on the Spirit'i kabrito trail. You will not encounter much more than this sign indicating the route and there are occasional side paths. So make sure you have a track with you in a hiking app, so that you know which way to go.

What is immediately noticeable is that the surface is different from what I know from Curacao. The rocks along the route are also completely different from what I am used to from Curacao. And you see Aloe plants in many places along the route. You also see many Divi Divi trees. Some are blown to the side by the prevailing northeast trade wind, but most of them are standing upright. So it is certainly not the case that the Divi Divi is always at an angle. What is very clear is that the Divi Divi trees on Aruba are considerably older than those on Curacao. The trunks are generally considerably thicker.

The route also takes you past a large rock, which I call the whale because of the shape and size of the rock. Impressive. Definitely worth finding out how these rocks were formed.

The route eventually ends up on the path, which you have walked at the beginning of the route. The first and last part of the route are therefore the same.
There is still a small tough part, because the very last part of the route is quite steep up to get back to your car.

A nice walk to do. The route is 5km long and it took me a little over an hour and a half.
