Aruba overig 20241101 0021

On the last day of our vacation in Aruba we first went for lunch at The Hub on the Mainstreet; well worth it! A beautiful large space with relaxed music and enthusiastic service. Your meal is freshly prepared and tastes excellent. They are open for breakfast and lunch and close at 3 pm. The menu is actually an extensive breakfast menu, but with good choices. I had ordered a slice of quiche and thus expected a slice, but it turned out to be a small complete quiche made entirely from scratch with a salad on the side. Tasted excellent!

After lunch we still had time to walk around San Nicolas. Every year new murals are painted there by local and foreign artists. Very worthwhile and of high quality.

Below is a selection of these artworks and other photos of San Nicolas. I can recommend anyone on vacation in Aruba to take a morning or afternoon to visit San Nicolas.

Because the route along the buildings in Oranjestad took a long time we did this route in two days. Below are the pictures of the first part of that route.

Blauwe Paarden Oranjestad
Within Oranjestad, capital of Aruba, several horse statues can be found, all painted blue. Each of the 8 bright blue horses is unique and carries its own name and personality. The names of these horses are Rosalinda, Saturnina, Escapia, Sinforosa, Eufrosina, Ambrosio, Bonifacia and Celestina. These 8 sculptures were created by native Aruban artist Osaira Muyale. She named the project Paarden Baai, which translates to “Horses Bay”. The name Paarden baai is still in use for the bay in front of the city, near the cruise terminals.

The statues were installed in 2015 and are in honor of the historically important horse trade that provided income to the island. The 8 Sculptures represent "Strength, Nobility, Grace, Beauty and Freedom".
