• Difficulty: Easy

On Friday, October 29, 2010, the day Frances and I arrived for a one-week vacation in Aruba, we drove from the airport to Seroe Colorado. According to the Werbata map there is a Werbata triangulation point (nr 20) near the lighthouse. Light tower and Werbata triangulation point are marked on the map. The lighthouse is easily recognisable. The problem is that my map in the GPS is not yet calibrated with exact coordinates, so the GPS is not very reliable yet.

Near the lighthouse is a round cement cylinder surrounded by an iron single rail. This is somewhat similar to what we have seen in Curaçao on Blue Bay as a World War II heavy gun emplacement. In any case, it is not a triangulation point.
Further towards the sea I see a construction that resembles a triangulation point of the Kadaster in Curaçao. Only the round concrete pole with black and white markings has been replaced here by a wooden pole with similar black and white markings.

Close by, a little closer to the coast, on a slightly raised rock is a rectangular cement block with a copper point on top in the middle. Clearly a measuring point. There is no marking on the measuring point. It is about 30x30 cm, so it is smaller than the Werbata triangulation points in Curaçoa. Other than that, it has a similar shape.
Walking back to the lighthouse, close to the lighthouse I see another rectangular block of cement with the remains of a wooden post, similar to what I have interpreted as a Kadaster triangulation point earlier in this trip. But that is now becoming a bit more questionable.
A few meters from this rectangular block is a round, white, cement disc with a clearly marked center.

From these observations I cannot yet deduce which of these points could be the Werbata triangulation point and what the other points are. Perhaps this will become clearer after I have visited some other triangulation points.
In any case, I have to come back to this area because phosphate mining has also been done here and there may still be remnants of the railway and the houses of the management of the mining company.
